Dulyn Bothy

On Friday my friend Mitch and I went for a stay in Dulyn Bothy in the Carneddau in Snowdonia. After a frustrating long drive we eventually arrived at the car park in Cwm Eigiau at 8:00pm It was at this point that I discovered what a complete numpty I am. I had brought the camera/filters/spare battery I took a quick picture of the start only to discover I had left the SD card back at home!! D'oh! so I had to rely on my phone for pictures of this trip. I left the camera behind with a heavy heart but on the bright side it meant a little less weight to carry, always look on the positives.

Luckily the rain was now easing and we set of into the darkness the track from the car park round to Llyn Melynllyn was very clear to follow and when the clouds parted and the moon came out it was like someone has switched on a light switch, we hardly used the headtorches, in fact the only time we used them was on the steep slippery wet path down from Llyn Melynllyn to Dulyn Reservoir.

We arrived at the bothy and made ourselves comfortable and about half an hour later 4 guys arrived, they had come over from Macclesfield for the night, best thing was they brought some bottles of port and a variety of cheeses. not what we were expecting but the cheese tasting session that followed washed down with glasses of port was great we sat up chatting laughing and joking until 2am a really fun evening, cheers guys.

The next morning we woke to discover 2 extra people in the bothy..... when did they arrive?? Anyway the weather now was not pleasant our plan was to head up onto Carnedd Llewelyn round to Pen Llithrig y Wrach before dropping down back to the car park. Well the wind and rain was not inviting and when we got back to Llyn Melynllyn looking up into the dark clouds we both looked at each other a said 'shall we just head back?' and in agreement that is what we did. Although we did not do the full intended circuit the night out in the bothy and the night walk into the bothy was well worth the trip up here.

This was the plan

This was reality
